Tekton First Time Buyer Prospect Seeking Advise from Tekton Owners

I am looking at trying out for the first time the Tekton speakers by getting the Mini-Lore Monitors

Questions:

  1.  Should I get the basic configuration withOUT any upgrades?
  2.  Should I get the tweeter upgrade only?
  3.  Should I get the upgrade package only? (upgrade internal wiring, bindings posts and cross over)
  4.  Should I get both the tweeter and the upgrade package?

I am asking because I am not sure how much improvement I would get with the upgrades. I am trying to assess if the upgrades are worth it based on Tekton owner experience.

Thank you.

:-)  Thanks. Like 1 hour ago, I have just asked Tekton via email about the later-on upgrade of the tweeters. I was also thinking that maybe the  beryllium tweeters  could be too bright for me, but no way of knowing until I try them. I am using a Wyred4Sound ST-500 power amp. My usual budget for gear items is about $1,500 maximum, but if I do not have to use it all, I do not want to, :-).

I was just reaching by asking, any advise or comments from tekton owners is information that I did not have before, hence it helps no matter what.

Thanks for the comments!
Like MC said, get the Largest Tekton your budget allows. Do you have room for a tower? These will give you more full range sound. I get it the mini monitors are not a big risk $ wise, but I would consider the standard Lore or the Enzo XL at least if you can swing it and have the room. The $300 crossover and wire upgrade is a good choice. I personally would not get the BE tweet, some love it. But a friend of mine did get it, and now he regrets it, too bright for him (and me). And he just ordered a replacement speaker without the BE. So 8 weeks till the truck comes to deliver the new and take back the old. Keep us posted on your decision.
That mirrors advice teajay gave me, to stick with soft dome tweeters.

It may help to understand, a lot of the magic is in the MTM array. Eric's design philosophy is grounded in low mass/low stiction. Using an array of very small drivers (tweeters) to cover a range usually reserved for larger drivers (midrange) lowers mass tremendously and explains the extraordinary sound of Moab, Encore, Ulfberht. Double Impacts get a lot of that by having roughly half the MTM array. Then as you go down the line the same principle applies its just tapered off with smaller arrays, until eventually there is no array its just the drivers.

At that point his advantage is still there, because its still involved in selecting the drivers and crossovers and especially the cabinet. Guys hate me for pointing this out but the reality is most speakers are made for women, women don't want to see a speaker, so most speakers are way smaller than they should be. This makes it hard in so many ways. Eric avoids all of that with his designs.

This all adds up to a bottom line which is what nwres just said get the largest Tekton you can. But that advice sounds almost too simple to be true, which is why I take the time to explain all the reasoning behind why it is true.
Great advise. :-)

I only have room for monitors; I use a subwoofer and I like the 2.1 set up. My plan is to start with the Mini-Lore Monitors then try out the Dynamites or the Impact Monitors, but those are $500 more than I would like to spend.

I have found out by trial an error that I do not like warm speakers. I have auditioned the ELAC Uni-Fi UB5 (first gen), Wharfedale Diamond 10.1, Revel M16, Vienna Acoustics Bach and the Polk Legend L100 and they were to veiled for me. Then I have listened to the Dali Zensor 1, Emotiva B1, and Klipsch Reference Premier towers  and they were too bright for music. I have the Bryston Mini A and the Monitor Audio Silver Rx-1 and they sound neutral to me. But I want to try out the Tektons. In RMAF 2019, I listen to them, but did not pay attention; they did not sound bad at all. I keep reading about them and the people that rave about them, etc.

Thanks again!!!
I would give Eric a call and tell him about the speakers you have liked and don't like as well as your current plan. I am sure he will have some ideas of what should work for you.
