R to r dacs

I was completely taken by the sq of the Aqua hi fi la scala dac during a demo.  Even with a discount the price is out of budget and would have to add a streamer as well
I have been following multiple impressions of direct to consumer units such as Denefrips pontus, audio gd 7 and Holo May.  Anyone with experience with the Aqua hi fi and the subsequent dacs?
TIA

All of the soekris units sold.  I’m down to the holo May or the audio gd r7.  Anyone heard these two units?   I know the measurements on the R7 are t great but sq in the end is what I’m going for
Another happy La Voce (S2) owner, here!

Having read John Darko's review of the La Voce S2, I searched until I found a dealer willing to send me a demo unit. I compared the Aqua to  the Heed Abacus, Metrum Pavanne and COS D2. The Heed and the COS were way too analytical for my tastes and the Metrum was just the opposite-- very sluggish and dense. For me, the La Voce was just right.

I thought about upgrading to S3 but after speaking with the Aqua rep about what sonic changes I could expect, I decided against it.
Great that you got such a discount on the Aqua. I found a good deal on one of the Chinese r to r dacs and for that price I can trade up
@catdoorman

i have a sonnet morpheus, it is one of my two main dacs (non tube, but r2r), really love the sound, to my ears just the right balance of incisiveness, richness/saturation/texture, purity of tone...

but i have not had an aqua to compare (nor do i have plans to acquire one presently)

at this level it is hardly about what is better, they are all very good, but present the music differently, emphasizing different aspects ... tis a matter of what one prefers or what one’s system needs for synergy
