@spiritofradio Also, you know he wrote his 8th as an 84 year old codger and had a time with putting the orchestra (especially the drum section) through his tricks. I guess some people think his melodies can be too simple. But there is a moment in the 8th when the violins are about as beautiful as I’ve ever heard. Yes indeed. Yea, compared to Beethoven, or Mozart, etc. they may be simple, but still very musical and enjoyable, perhaps because of that. His compositions remind me a lot of the romantic composers. From what I have read, the 8th was extremely well received during it's first performances, to standing ovations. Probably his most popular symphony. As in other genres of music, there is room for a variety of various forms of 'classical'. |
