That has been my experience as well with clamps in combination with double MyMat's. The double MyMat's are awesome without any.

I haven't used a clamp since I got my double MyMat system.  I'll have to try a clamp just to hear what the difference is.  I typically don't use a clamp anyway, unless there is some serious warp to deal with.  I will play an album with no clamp and then play it again with a clamp.  An experiment, in a way.
