Nakamichi DR-10 Cassette Deck Repair

I am the original owner of a Nakamichi DR-10 Cassette Deck. This unit has been sitting idle (indoors, climate-controlled environment) for a decade or more. I recently connected it to my stereo system, and attempted to play (several) tapes. As soon as I push the Play button, it stops; i.e.: it will not play the tape. The Fast Forward and Rewind both work. QUESTIONS:
  • Any ideas re: how to fix this issue?
  • Any suggestions re: repair services?
Thank you in advance.

after years of stopping it is normal that a tape deck does not work, belts melted into the pulley, maybe even the idler works badly due to many years of stop.
It is not a complicated job, a change of belts always works out; at that point it is also better to carry out calibrations to bring the deck back to the manufacturer's specs
Hope you get it fixed.  I've had one for about 20 years or so - - still plays/records great.
I agree, Willie is the best on the West coast and reasonable. If you're thinking about doing it yourself, Nak Talks is the site to read.
fiesta 75, are you referring to Naks.com?
I looked at the site but it seems inactive.

I'm looking to find instruction on changing the belts on a ZX-9 (non-auto reverse version of the Dragon).  The dis-assembly is a real PITA and I'm concerned about breaking something.

Any ideas would be welcomed
