@mozartfan, i have big experience, with Tang Band, 1808 with Neodim magnet is garbage , they got cone break and big pick 3000-5000Hz. i use a lot and replaced with 2145 regular magnet, 2145 came on production later the 1808 and get much more bettter paper cone with bamboo fiber. so come stronger them 1808, result - very small pick, after removing parasitic whizzer cone and adding supertweeter Fostex and adding 2 Eton Simphony line woofers as helper , i got model Tribeca-001 with a lot a happy customers
Tang Band 8 vs DavidLouis VX8
TB has this **pill** neo dymium magnet system,, like the VoxAC1A.. I was not impressed.
Whereas the DLVX8 has a solid 1 pice Nd magnet system.
I just asked the DL seller, he confirmed my guess, the TB is not up to same level of quality as his DL VX8.
I just wrote and asked him if the VX8 is in fact Nd.
His listing for the VX6 says **Nd*,,so its my guess since both magnets look the same build, I'm guessing its Nd.
+ big bonus, the DL comes it at just under $500, TB is $640.
The DL just looks superior build.
Arrives next week, late due to GHL's ship is behind.

I tried hard to figure out the cone material used in the 1808 and 1772 (same driver), It was when I loked close at 1 pic,, that I realized it was NOT on the same level material as the DL Yellow and DLVX8. I was cking out the 2145,, and wanted to know which was the later driver, = more recent usually better performance.. So I will certainly look into the 2145/bamboo fiber cone. But not sure if I willl buy, if the Davidlouis VX8 performs well, makes no sense to add the TB 2145. But I just might,,, let me look at the 2145 now,,,be back later......On the woofers,, I willl look at the Tons... But honestly I like the Seas W18's and I want to get my money out these W18's. I've spent alot past 2 yrs,,, |
Believe or not, It was in fact the 2145 that caught my eye, IF, I ever decided to try out the TB. Why? Nice big heavy ferrite magnet + The extra added surround looks like a winner + The cone is dif vs the 1880/1772, bamboo FIBER vs treated paper. + price is very reasonable. I can tell the metal phase plug really puts out sparkly highs. Meaning I might dump the Kasun paper 3.5 tweet if that metal phase pulg puts out crystaline highs. Thanks for the tip. ...just RE-visiting the YT vid on the 2145, which convinced me this driver was something special,,, just cked now,,and sure enough,, I will have to make the order for this driver. Bass and highs are super,,and voice extremely accurate. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYDTN7K6aS0&t=442s |
OK WB 101 Magnet important Cone material more important Magnets Nd = Neo Dymium Fe = Ferrite I much prefer Nd,,however as my tech reminds me, a big Fe = a smaller Nd = same reulst,, Maybe. But I personaly prefer Nd. = Pay more, worth the 2x's price??? Maybe not. Cone material Paper Treated paper bamboo Fiber Wood Fiber (= Bamboo fiber??) Calligraphy paper super thin as in Voxativ, No good, AER super thin, type?? Not sure, wont say on site, All YOU need to know is **Thin paper* not good for reproducing deep solid bass. Treated paper = very good Bamboo Fiber as in TB 2145, read Bache's comment above = winner Wood fiber (bamboo wood fiber??) as in the DL VX6 and VX8, Not sure, as i am waiting any day for the speaker, DHL is behind due to plane shortage. 6's usually superior highs at the slight expense of bass. Mids good. 8's less highs , but superior bass, mids good. Db sensitivity, 91-95db sens. Ideal. Dont need 96+ db, as you get a too forward midrange = too aggressive midrange. The TB 2145, 90db, For me this is perfect. I tend to believe a lower db sens in WB's gives a superior punch to bass. 89db too low, IDEALLY 90/91db for good solid bass. (could be wrong, waiting on the VX8 for confirmation on this theory) The DLVX8 says 95db. We will see how this affects performance. Is this a TRUE 95db sens? We will see. The DL Yellow cone, /91db sens = accurate spec. So we have magnet material + weight of magnet cone material db sensitivity spec. WB 101 to be continued.... stay tuned..... |
well I can tell you right now,. The big WB shootout will be DLVX8 vs TB2145 Just a hunch, tells me,,well i am not going to give a hunch,,,best gun slinger wins..is how this will go down at The old speaker OK Corral.... Gonna be bloody. 2 of the biggest baddest WB gunners in the ol west... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5gZ4ZGW-WQ&t=159s |
