52Tiger, Fair point about the cost of the named surface mount tonearms. I guess the least expensive conventional pivoted type would be the Dynavector DV505, which although long discontinued can be found on the "pre-owned" market for ~$900 to $1100. The Viv and the RS Labs are underhung tonearms (alignment so that the tip of the stylus does not reach the spindle). This type has no headshell offset angle, either.
