Well, the CBS-Hytron 5814A‘s arrived, and was anxious to compare them to the Brimar’s. Wow, I think I like these a lot. More detailed and ‘clear’. Because of that, the dynamics seem as good if not better. Listening to some complex orchestration, the instruments seem better defined, and even the overall tone a bit better. Went back and forth twice, and I think I’ll keep these in over the Brimar’s for a while, possibly for good.

To me, a fairly unknown tube manufacturer that performs very well and sounds great. Glad I took a shot with them.

Not that I noticed Steve. To be honest I’m not sure spec-wise what their gain is vs the 12au7’s, but know from reading, many have used them in place of au’s, and seemingly ‘equivalent’.
