Where to start?

I need a little jump start from some of you experts. I am trying to research and buy a set of quality used bookshelf speakers. The only one I have been able to listen to is the B&W CM5, so this is my reference point. Has anyone possible put together a spreadsheet of specifications? If not, are there sites that do a good job of comparing? I guess the real question is, what is the best way to get started?

Thanks,

I've never heard a spec (but I'm sure someone will say they have). You need to get your ears on some speakers to make an informed decision. Just my humble opinion. Good luck.
Start by doing your self a favor and forget about specs - instead use your ears - then consult your wallet.

Dynaudio X12 or 16
B&W 805d
Dynaudio C1 MKII
Focal Diablos
Magico Mini II or Q1
Tad CR-1a Reference

All are excellent but different - price range from 1,200 to 46,000
For the same money, the KEF LS-50s are getting some great press. Being a new speaker, it will be hard to audition but may be worth it.

All the best,
Nonoise
