A bad map that gets you to the right place is a good map. Was the bad map created with 10% perspective and 10% opinion - maybe. An understanding that opinion, perspective and whole system affect are built into any map given needs to be afforded.
We fall into a hole when we are not certain about the right place - and question where we are standing. I think this is more clear with music suggestions. Anytime someone recommends an album, we look at what else that person likes and see if it aligns with our taste. If it aligns, we take the suggestion in. Same thing with equipment. If the opinion comes from a system owner that is similar to our system, we take it in.
I once had a philosophy professor who would mark up papers if your wrote ‘I believe’ or ‘I think’. Everything you write or state is what you believe or think - nothing more and nothing less. To write down ‘I believe’ at the bringing of a statement is redundant and worse yet is an attempt to give more credence to the statements you didn’t start with ‘I believe’. Good life lesson.
