Surge Protectors

Hello Friends,

I recently added a dedicated 20amp circuit just for my Dutch & Dutch 8C's (active speakers). In addition to some vibration control (T podiums) the setup sounds amazing. I couldn't be happier with the 8C's, and the impending firmware upgrade adding BACCH to the system is just a big fat cherry on top. I'm nearly at the end of my journey in terms of buying/upgrading.

At the moment the right speaker doesn't reach the new outlet so both speakers are plugged into a surge protector, which is plugged into the new outlet.

My question is this, is my surge protector ($26 Belkin with 12 plugs from Amazon) a bottleneck, or in any way limiting the benefits of the new circuit?

@cleeds  - Some plug-on units are rated for either Type 1 or 2, but clearly closer to the meter is better.  Siemens Bolt Shield for instance.

I absolutely use and encourage the use of a whole house surge suppressor, but here is a page and video that help clarify how they work and why you still need point-of-use protection as well.

The written documentation makes it clear:

For your more sensitive electronic plug-in equipment such as phones, computers, DVDs, DVRs and stereos, Tesco and Platte-Clay recommend electronics-grade point-of-use surge protectors in addition to the Tesco MSA surge protection system.

That’s 100% consistent with the 2020 NEC and the docs from Siemens, Square D and Eaton.

Further, watch the video where the MOV that are used is discussed.

Also, note it's $5 / month with a waived $30 installation fee.  Far better deal!
