Re Bob Dylan butchering most of his songs onstage, turn to his recent album Shadow Kingdom which is a recording of a small venue live performance. Comprised of nearly all 60s work and stylistically minimally re-worked, he sings like he hasn't done for 30 years. See tracklist below. Order at once, in vinyl or polycarbonate. You will be amazed what the man can still do.
This of course calls into question whether other stage performances are butchering the songs. If Dylan couldn't sing them any other way, that might be butchering. But now we know he can, at the age of over 80. So perhaps he doesn't see other performances as butchering his work.
