WHY DO PEOPLE FEEL THE NEED TO COMMENT ON CABLES AND EQUIPMENT THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD?

It’s an acceptance thing going back to when you were in grade school trying to be the cool kid. If you make a comment about a subject you might be included as part of the cool club. Learning that lesson you go on into life making comments hoping to be part of the cool club once again.
