JBL 4312 continue to please my ears every time I hear them sing.

Tekton M-Lore, Vandersteen 1, Spica tc 50. Too me, the Lore wins by a wide margin.

+1 for: Monitor Audio Silver (or Bronze), Epos ELS 3, Wharfedale Diamond

Also: PSB Imagine XB, Rega RS-1, Focal Chorus bookshelf - any model except 807V which sounds too bass heavy in most applications to me

As an owner of Magneplanar 1.7s, I also would put in for MMGs at $599/pair.

Every main speaker (as opposed to center channel or surround) in Magnepan's lineup was an Absolute Sound Editor's Choice at its price point this year--MMG, .7, 1.7, 3.7i, and 20.7.

MMG is good choice with right gear.
