clipping


hello  6 years ago went looking for audio, picked up bw 804s with rotel receiver and cd player. had a few days off from work, dangerous , picked up some new equipment but still clipping some say rotel 1072 does this   any thoughts  thanks

How are you measuring 80 ?? Is that the setting on the amp or a measurement of the audio level at yoru seat?

This is what I mean by not sure you are describing the issue.  Does the sound cut out... or do you hear the sound get really nasty?

That’s not clipping!

Clipping is a type of distortion heard when an amplifier reaches the maximum voltage swing it is capable of. It’s called clipping because the normally sinusoidal like signals do a hard stop at the maximum voltage, looking as if scissors had clipped them.  It sounds quite harsh.  It does not sound like silence.

The audio cutting out is not clipping. It’s more likely a sign of a thermal or current overload.  It may happen if your speakers have too low of an impedance for your amp, whether by design or fault.
