Linear power supply for Weiss DAC 204

Looking to upgrade from Chord Qutest with the Weiss Dac 204.  The Weiss comes with an ac adapter, brick or an external power supply that plugs into the wall. I am seeking to upgrade to a linear power supply. My top two choices are as follows:

  1. S Booster  Linear Power supply (About $450.00).
  2. Modwright Linear Power Supply (About $1000.00

Has anybody heard either of these? Dos the Modwright sound better than the S Booster? I currently have a LHY power supply on my Qutest and a S Booster on my Lumin U2 mini.  Each reduces the noise which in turn improved the sound.

Thank you.

I have the Modwright. Big improvement plus it's footprint matches the Weiss.

System aesthetics matter, at least to me. (and to swmbo)

How do you like the LHY LPS for the Lumin U2 Mini? The internal kit looks like it may be the best option on the market. However, I don’t know if the DC power cable is of high quality like the Teddy or Statement cable. We have a distributor that is only a few miles away from me but he doesn’t have any units. I was hoping they drop shipped all the US orders. Are you pleased with the overall quality, including sound? On an improved percentile scale, did the LHY improve the overall performance by more than 40 percent or were there only minimal improvements in sound quality 10-20 percent?

The LHY power supply is hooked up to the Lumin U2 mini and I would say that I hear a 20% difference. The noise floor was reduced which in turn allowed the mini to sound better than with the original equipment. The change over was not simple so my dealer took care of it.  I use the s booster linear power supply for my Chord Qutest Dac and the improvement in sound quality also about 20%. The S booster was and add on and was easier to install. I should add both products are quality.I purchased the S Booster from Upscale Audio and the LHY from Vinshine Audio. I have had both products for about 6 months.

Thank you for the feedback. I just started looking at LPS and considering the installation of one on a U2 Mini. I usually look for at least a 40 percent improvement when I’m upgrading something like the DAC or speakers. Obviously, this isn’t an expensive or total upgrade. Like moving from the Mini to the U2. I’d be courteous to know if adding a LPS to the Mini improves the sound quality equal to or close to the U2 without the dedicated USB or optical fiber input. If so, the LPS would be a worthwhile option. Any thoughts?

Can't speak about the U2, only the U2 mini, or your 40% rule. It really depends how resolving your system is. If your system is highly resolving then I believe you will hear a difference with a linear power supply. The linear power supply reduced the noise floor and in turn allow you to hear more of the music. I updated the U2 mini with the LHY power supply.  From what I have read the U2 costs substantially more than the U2 mini. I would not expect that the addition of a linear power supply to the U2 mini will get you close to the performance of the U2.  I am personally waiting for the next network transport to come out replacing the U2 mini.
