The Audio Science Review (ASR) approach to reviewing wines.

Imagine doing a wine review as follows - samples of wines are assessed by a reviewer who measures multiple variables including light transmission, specific gravity, residual sugar, salinity, boiling point etc.  These tests are repeated while playing test tones through the samples at different frequencies.

The results are compiled and the winner selected based on those measurements and the reviewer concludes that the other wines can't possibly be as good based on their measured results.

At no point does the reviewer assess the bouquet of the wine nor taste it.  He relies on the science of measured results and not the decidedly unscientific subjective experience of smell and taste.

That is the ASR approach to audio - drinking Kool Aid, not wine.

Neither do many of the members. IIRC Amir himself uses old ML class A monos, not high SINAD NCore or Purifi based products.

Don't recall many of the faithful taking Amir to task for owning a system well into the 6 figure range.  Anyone else spending that much is routinely labeled an "audiophool".

Fascinating how people with such short lives know SO much more than those of us who've been around twice as long as them.

Yes, the children always know more than the parents.  Those of us with some gray put in the work.  Particularly, those with musical training and experience who know what music is supposed to sound like!

First, here is this recent Audiogon thread about uber-Audiophile Mike Lavigne’s lavish audio barn

Then, here is audio infidel Amir’s scandalous visit to Mike’s barn. Six-figure-system man visits seven-figure-system man!

Mild snark aside, it went better than you’d think. And the ASR peanut gallery was a lot less foaming-at-the-mouth than expected.

Goes to show that things don’t have to be so black and white in this world.

Next up on the evening news: Republican has dinner at Democrat’s home!! Yeah I know I’m one day late with that one

I love it when Amir mentions Mr Hsu as being someone who is interested in learning. Learn from Amir?

I have friends who have heard Mike's system and they were very impressed. If Amir had liked the system I would be very worried.

I will say that I didnt think these speakers were as good as others, but have only heard them at shows.

In fairness, when Amir got to sit in Mike's listening chair he changed his tune and said he liked the system. This suggests those speakers are quite directional.
