@theo No way. SACD drives is a tiny niche market and not worth their time/investment from a business perspective. The profitability and growth of Sony is based primarily on gaming, networking, and financial services so diverting capital away from those areas for something like SACD drives is highly unlikely to be on their radar — or any other large manufacturer’s radar for that matter. Marantz dropping it is testimony that this is just not a viable or sustainable product. |
Soix, I would have to agree that it is dying, but it saddens me that all my non-hybrid disc will join my 8 tracks when and if my Oppo dies. Ironically my first couple SACD players were Marantz then Ayre and now Oppo. I actually still have a brand new drive for the Ayre C5xe in case someone has a player that is in need of one. Ayre quite servicing that part years ago. Incidentally I finally pitched my Automatic Radio 8 Track recently. |
