Isolation footers for ATC SCM100A

I just purchased a used pair of ATC 100A speakers, and they come with the manufacturer’s iron OEM stands.  On my current pair of ATC 40 towers, I’m using Herbie’s threaded Stud Glider footers for decoupling.

I’m considering using the Stud Gliders with the 100s, tapping thread holes into the stand bottoms, and perhaps also employing sorbothane pads where the speakers contact the stands.

Does that sound like a reasonable approach?  Or would there be an alternate way to use the Herbie’s footers?  Any advice welcome.

Thanks,

JAMES

@celtic66

Thanks for your solid advice.  The active ATCs seem to have elevated the system to a level I haven't heard before.  Could my upgrade-itis daze be coming to a close?  As Boz Scaggs once sang, 'what seemed impossible, might not be impossible...'

Cheers!

JAMES

Correct!  Having owned both ATC 40A and now ATC 50A, will add that they do profit from power cord upgrade.  Seems logical.  I started with Patrick Cullen Crossover II, eventually ended with Furutech 4.1.  Cullen was good, Furutech, gooder.  I know, it's easy spending Other People's Money.

Thanks @celtic66 for the PC info.

I have a Cardas Beyond Power PC, which provided a system-wide improvement with my Benchmark AHB2...tried it on one of the 100As, with the other using stock PC -- and was surprised that the difference was almost indistinguishable, to my ears.  Not what I expected.

So, I might sell off the Beyond Power and get two decent 'middle-of-the-road' PCs, so at least, that box is checked.

Also, I want to give the 100s some time to settle in, before any rash moves, haha!

Best, JAMES.

@celtic66 what size Podiums for ATC SCM50? I was thinking the S2’s with a C load cell. I think they weigh 90.5 pounds with the stand, and a tiny bit of overhang is fine. I think the S3 will be huge looking. I currently have ISO Acoustics screwed into the stand threads.

S3 is mine, but whatever works for you.  Measure twice, order once.  Load I'm not sure of, sound correct.  I had piano movers bring mine upstairs.

Not much overhang from tower base.  S3 looks right from my perspective, but that's just me.  Have lots of fun, ya' hear.
