Viny to a hard drive. Please help me.

Can someone please tell me how to record vinyl to a hard drive? I would like to preserve some of my rare records.

Can you recommend a covertor/processor (brand) that gets the praise?

And, most important, what's the consensus about sound reproduction? Will the digital file sound as good as the original recording? That's critical to me.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Ayre recently released the QA-9 USB Analog to Digital Converter. Google it, there is a lot of info available.
I will follow this one cause I am doing the same thing, so far no good reviews in anything I had found.
Currently the best solution is the Korg MR2000S ($1200 or so). It will record effortlessly and save the file as DSD2X. You definitely want to do this once at the highest resolution possible.

I used this at RMAF to showoff DSD2X through our Playback Designs 3 Series DAC. It was terrific.
One of the cheaper solutions is an Apogee Duet (~$300) with an aftermarket breakout cable. Cables are available as a special order from bluejeans @ about $30. If you go this route, be sure get a cable that is purpose built for recording and not a dual purpose playback/recording cable.

And as a special bonus the ADC comes with DAC which is none too shabby. I use it about 80% of the time even though it is sitting next to a Paradesia from MHDT.

There is a a catch... this is a mac only solution as the duet interface is firewire.
