Hi Mark, thanks for your comment about the write-up. It was a nice experience to share. As to upgrades, hearing a system at this level continues to remind me that there are always opportunities to improve on the results we're getting, whether it be a component upgrade or just re-positioning cables. It all makes a difference.
No_regrets, I don't think the experience of Lloyd's system is the result of any particular component or set of components. The PC-1 Supreme cartridge certainly is good, but it is not discernibly better than the Magic Diamond "Spirit" cartridge Lloyd had in the arm last year. (In fact, Lloyd was planning to reinstall the MD Spirit after we left to spend some more time with it again.)
What makes the difference, imo, is Lloyd's fanatical attention to detail at every step and in every component, and his "take no prisoners" approach to parts quality, build quality and signal path purity. It's the combination of an amazing turntable and tonearm set up by a master; exceptionally clean, neutral and accurate electronics built with with the highest quality parts; power supply management; cabling; and resonance control.
John, great to hear from you. As you can attest, a visit to Walker Audio is an horizons expanding experience. Hearing his 'table and his system first hand is the only way to begin to understand what we're talking about. I encourage anyone with a passion for this opportunity and the ability to travel just west of Philadelphia to try to arrange a visit.
Regards to all,
