can you play a gold record?

OK so I am an analog Newb, but can you actually play a gold or Platinum record? I would think this would destroy the stylus....or is there even anything actually "cut" to the album to play?

My brother was a tech. for several bands back in the 90's so he has several since they ( the band ) gave them to the crew as well. They are pretty cool to look at and I was thinking.... you know... I wonder if I could play one of these.

only one way to find out: throw one on the t-table with an expendable cartrige; the stylus may likely be damaged

Rarely does the groove on the record match the actual recording being awarded.

You'll need a stylus made of upsadasium.

I recommend a VTF of negative 1.5 grams.
