The best speaker you ever heard?

In my opinion, the speaker is by far the most important part of the audio system. After all, it is the only part you hear. OK, the other stuff really matters a lot, but without a great speaker... No go.

I am a bit 'speaker-obsessed' I guess, and now I am wondering: What are the best speakers you have ever heard, and what made them the best?

Aronsss, I heard the Vandersteen 5A several years ago and came to the conclusion the 5A was one of the best speakers I have heard. The only significant weakness compared to the Soundlab(A3) and large Infinity Reference Models(Sigma-Beta)was soundstage height. If the 7 is an all around impovement of the 5A, it is without a doubt one of the best loudspeakers regardless of $$$.

Dayglow, the 7s sound unlike the 5As and are clearly better.

Hifisoundguy - Dude I just Super Glued some 901's version 6.12 to some ear muff's and I'm blown away buy the dynamics, transparency and holographic sound. I've had my receiver customized, so now it goes to 11 on the Volume. KC & The Sunshine Band has never sounded so good.

The only drawback is these new 901 based headphones are a little heavy, so I can only listen to one song at time.
