This is probably the best way to upgrade your system: find quality labels that have high standards when it comes to recording. Archiv has been around for a long time but they have a number of Baroque recordings (Trevor Pinnock) that sound rich and full even without any thing on the cover indicating "high definition" or super-bit mapping, etc. the Archiv Brandenberg Concertos are a good reference point. you can hear so many instrumental lines at once it may give you a headache...
French Astree label
I just came by chance across Astree LP label, unknown to me before. I bought their Marin Marais music (AS 13 from 1977).
I must say it's nothing short of spectacular when it comes to the sound quality (at least to my half-deaf ears ;). Very balanced sound, fantastic background and dynamics, very good vinyl surface.
I'm wondering, is it only this pressing or the label is known for a top notch quality?
cheers,
