That was Audio Salon I believe. In Living Stereo in NYC told me I would have to pay $100 to audition gear which would be applied toward a purchase if I made one. This was after an interrogation by a salesman for the purpose of determining if I bought my gear on Audiogon which made me uncomfortable. If he was straightforward instead of trying to be clever, I would have told him I buy from dealers, Audiogon, and friends. I understand the overhead in Manhattan is enormous, but it is unwise to drive away potential customers. I have actually been treated much better at Sound by Singer.
Who is the WORST Audio Shop?
There seems to have been quite a bit written over the past several years regarding the myriad of reasons one can attribute to the demise of the brick and mortar audio shop. Rarely have I read however one of the most obvious reasons, which based on my experience, has got to be the simple fact that for the most part, they just didn't offer a high end listening experience. That, along with an elitist and careless attitude towards customer service, buried them as much as anything else. So here's my question. Who is the WORST audio shop/dealer you've ever encountered?
