Where is noise coming from?

Hello!

I need your help. I hear a "soft nuisance noise" from one of my speakers everytime I play my basis turntable. This irritating soft noise switches to the other speaker as I switch the phono cable channels. This DOES NOT happen when I play my digital/cds., only during vinyl playing.
I have a klyne phono preamp and SFL 2.
Is the cartridge(transfiguration) the culprit? or is it the phono preamp? Tonearm wiring(graham)?
Please help.

It could be in your phono cartridge, in the interconnect from table to phono amp or from the phono amp to the preamp. Only way to tell is to do some troubleshooting and minimize the variables via process of elimination. Sean

If you haven't already(which I am sure you have)check for cartridge alignment. Sounds like a symptom. usually the right channel(inner channel) if there is a mal-adjustment. Just a thought. Good luck.

Other than the cartridge or the connections as already mentioned, the problem could also lie in the phono section itself as you speculate. Like Sean says, you'll have to do isolation/substitution testing on each variable to nail it down - no one here is going to be able to tell you where your gremlin resides from afar.
