Sony DVP-S7000 - best transport under 300?

This got rave reviews as a cd transport when it 1st came out, and can be had under $300 on ebay.

Is it a good choice for a transport? Or would a new Marantz CD4000 be better?

I have the DVP-S3000 which is the exact same transport w/o some of the added features you would not use as a transport anyway.

I had a Rega Planet prior to the current Roksan Caspian and both of these units sounded much more like analog than the Sony ever did.

My advise is use it as a DVD player for HT and that is all... One could get the Palnet for $400.00 here on Audiogon if you look long enough.

Just my thoughts...

Are you saying the Planet sounds better as a Transport, or sounds better as a CD player than the Sony?

If it is a better transport, what DAC did you use to test it?
