Does size matter?

I am in a chnaging home situation and maybe looking at smaller room in future.Have your standard size 42"x12"x16" boxes now but looking for high peformance in a smaller box.Still when I throw a set of Sound ASnchors under the monitors well how much space am I saving.Have thought about $4K as target for used market and was thinking of going and giving JM Mini Utopias a listen.Would like a set of new Quads but size and placement become issue. But when I have just looked at size as a criteria I find it hard to believe that some of the companies out there lik e Sonus Faber or Dynaudio have products that really can make a bookshelf speaker worth $8K.But with size vs peformance what is out ther I might nmot be thinking of?

Appreciate the feedback.Clueless and Newbie and y'all make some good points.Think maybe Kirk might have something there with the Electra.I have seen it's name come up a lot as well as the REL and Vandersteen for not break the bank cost and fast response (though in my recent Merlin post i.e are they worth it was told REL won't cut it with truly refined speakers.Have to go out and do some listening now.Yes AP makes some slender models that offer good value for the money and a pair of Sparks w/sub or Virgo's could be it.I have heard that the Tempo sounds good only when you feeding it some juice while Sparks have a refinement at lower levels.Freind bought a pair and along with the Maggie 1.6 or say the B&W 805 (if those are your things-not everybody's taste) there offer great bang for the buck.
Cheers!

I have to agree with Kirk, the JM Lab Mini/Electra Sub is a great combination, regardless of the price.
