Talk to many designers of gear and they all will tell you don't spend a lot on cables. Nuff said.

Does that mean you should not if you choose to and you enjoy the sound a certain cable will produce, no, this is a hobby and if you want to hear how the real recording sounded in the studio, well you better have the master tape on hand. LP or Digital cannot touch it.

What we are doing in a home system is building a system that sounds good to our ears and perception of good sound.

I like playing with cables for that reason. I can change the sound somewhat of my system without having to buy new gear. Inductance and impedance, and your gear all work together to give the final sound or interaction of a given cable to the one piece of equipment it is attached to. That is the big unknown and the fun of trying new cable.
Most designers do not know a lot about other brands. And they do not have a lot of experience with many different cables. I asked them many times about this. Many times I was surprised how little they knew.
