Do amplifiers deteriorate if not used?


Do amplifier internal parts (capacitors etc) deteriorate over time if they aren't being used, for example if an amplifier is in storage? Thanks.

Yes but very slowly. I don't think you need to worry about it so long as the storage location doesn't have big temperature or humidity swings.

I take my stored amps and turn them on for a day or 2 every 6 months. Every 3 months might be better but really it's just a hassle. Maybe somebody else knows the best compromise.
Electrolytic caps last at least 15 years - even more if temperature is low. They dry-out so keep storage temperature low. It is possible (and often done) to recap whole amplifier if necessary. Other components don't deteriorate.
