Class A SS vs. Class A/B SS

I am looking for a new amp/integrated for my Adagios (89db), I currently run KT88/6sn7 tube monos (50w), i want to buy a SS setup for when I want to just fire up an play (my vintage tubes take a while to warm up), I am torn between a high quality A/B design (eg. Bryston 4bsst, Pass, even Class D Bel Canto, W4S or MF integrated) or a true Class A amp like the 30w Pass 30.5 or a Class A Luxman or Accuphase etc. I am kinda leaning toward integrated for the convenience. I listen to primarily vinyl. Please help I know much less wattage is required for class A but how much is enough?

Hi Podolaw,
In regard to the thought that less wattage is required for class A; a watt is a watt- doesn't matter whether it's tube,ss,or a hair dryer. In my opinion if you're used to tubes
the class A amps would be the way to go. The tonal character of a ss class A is going to be a little closer to the tube sound.
You might want to look in the "Systems" section for other Adagio owners and see what they're using also.

The Adagios are already pretty smooth to begin with so you may find that a good class A/B design will bring some excitement to your listening.

I posted the other day stating that I ran a pair of Adagios with an LFD LEII and NCSE with really good results. A well designed 50wpc SS amp will do fine.

I would imagine that something like a Naim XS integrated would do the job nicely as well.

If you can live without a remote, any of the LFD LE series will work well for sure.

The '30 watt' Pass 30.5 is available in form of an integrated...the INT-30 and really puts out closer to 100 watts by 1% distortion. By than it is firmly in A/B.

So, if you can 'make do' with 30 'a' watts, the Pass may work
The INT-150 is an A/B design which is near 200 watts and about 300@4ohms.
I'd without hesitation have the INT-150 for my panels......and be willing to try the 30........
