Depends on the transformer. 50 Hz is tougher to deal with and often requires derating the transformer if it's not rated for 50/60 Hz. If the transformer is oversized to begin with, that's not much of a problem. However, the problem is compounded by using lower voltage. The real question is whether the transformer will handle "single phase" as opposed to "split phase" without saturation, heat and noise and that's not predictable.
240 VAC 60Hz amp running at 230 VAC 50Hz - safe?
I have a new pre-amp which mentions on the back panel that expects a 240VAC 60Hz input.
In my home country the power supply is 230 V/ 50Hz.
Can anyone advise whether:
1. It is safe to operate the amplifier despite freq difference.
2. Whether the freq difference may impact / retard the amplifiers performance?
