newbie, disappointed, curious..

I answered a classified for an amp that was listed for sale or trade. Contacted person and made a deal to trade amps. I suggested that we trade and make sure we are both happy and then finalize deal. He would rather finalize now so we made the deal and exchanged shipping information, etc. Today I rcv'd an email from him stating that he changed his mind- he needed the money. I assume that this is not the norm.. what do you think.. Isn't what we say (write) our word. I would not think of making a deal with someone and not following through, unless the item was stolen from my house before I could ship it.

after sleeping on it I agree with you folks- no blood no foul. I am fortunate that he backed out as soon as he did, before I actually sent it.
I still would never back out on a deal I made unless the circumstances were beyond my control. Thank you guys.

Mingles- I was going to ship at a predetirmined date. I don't know who would have paid if I had shipped but that would have sucked, 200 watts by Bryston is more than a little heavy

get used to it. there are no commitments, unless something was sold at an auction and even then it means very little.
we are talking used audio gear.
I know how it feels, but this is perfectly normal. it was actually nice of him to let you know.

If he agreed to the deal he should have followed through. We all depend on each other's integrity, if we aren't true to our word this thing we have here starts to fall apart. Still, bleep happens, and the deal was cancelled before the actual transaction took motion. Perhaps it was all for the best, but I for one wouldn't want to promote this idea as acceptable.

This kind of thing happens. I've had people agree to purchase an item, then they backed out. When I complained, they started accusing me of trying to rip them off and if I gave them bad feedback they would say all sorts of bad things about me. I've always been honorable and most people are here but not all. I say the best thing is to move on and just be glad it wasn't worse.
