Question on Speaker Placement
I recently listened to a person's system that looks like it would sound terrible.  One speaker close against a glass side wall and the other sidewall open to the room as you describe.  It sounded glorious. So sometimes the rules are not as writte...

The designer of the GamuT speakers came from Gato if I am remembering correctly. They look more than a little similar if you check it out. The Gato FM6 is very good, but you will have to find one. Also, from what I hear the quality may have gone ...

What I meant to say was Michael Brecker was heavily influenced by Coltrane and Chris Potter was influenced in return by Michael Brecker. I sometimes hear a little "Steps Ahead" when I listen to Potter's music.  Bits and pieces.   
Power cord
It just depends on what the op needs. Does he want to warm up a bright system, does he want more resolution.  It's kind of hard to help.
