Ayre Phono P5xe settings low / Med / High ?
What Lewm said. In my experience, gain matching between the phono pre and the cartridge is a vastly overlooked issue. Even a few dB of unnecessary gain can result in a sound that is edgy, harsh, and overall fatiguing. I'd start with the lowest set...
Rhea Signature vs. ARC PH-7
Pls explain why the JMW 9 Sig is not up to snuff for the XV-1S.Handymann,This thread might provide you with an answer to your question.
Everything about this is wrong...
You said "last night"? Not to discredit your impressions, but perhaps you should give it some time and do some more critical listening before coming to a definite conclusion?
Fremer's review of the Anna cartridge
SwampwalkerAcutusrex- Sorry to have offended you; I was just trying to light-heartedly say I agreed w you.Swampwalker,No offense taken; I gathered as much. To the rest of your post, I agree with your points, and I would too very much like to know...
Fremer's review of the Anna cartridge
Raul,I do understand what you're saying and you make a good point. I'm simply bemoaning the fact that apparently there has never been A standard for cutter heads. I find it as frustrating as befuddling. And indeed it means that only individual eva...
Fremer's review of the Anna cartridge
Swampwalker,No, I don't think I do. It still does not justify the cost. And where do you stand? I think the issue warrants a serious discussion.
Fremer's review of the Anna cartridge
NandricThe cart producers get the whole cantilever/stylus combo from their supplier. The so called 'retip' is usually a simple substitution of this combo. The 'real retip' by which a new stylus is glued in the existing cantilever seems to be much...
Fremer's review of the Anna cartridge
Sarcher,Good points. In fact, to your point, Fremer had his Ortofon A90 retipped at a cost of "a few thousand dollars, close to the A90's original price of $4200." To me, that's absurd. In my opinion, if indeed most styli can only perform best for...
Fremer's review of the Anna cartridge
Perhaps to make matters worse, in the Manufacturer's Comments section, an Ortofon rep offers absolutely no explanation or even a mention of the problems, which Fremer spends a good portion of the review on. Seems like an awful PR job on Ortofon's ...
Fremer's review of the Anna cartridge
Jonathan,Thank you for weighing in, and clarifying the Atlas issue. I was not aware of the correction. I know Lyra is known for the high quality of their cartridges, and I myself am a very happy owner of a Delos, so it's good to hear it was a mist...
Questions About VPI Scout Motor Noise
Orpheus,This thread might be of some help to you. It is possible that with time dirt and dust particles made their way into the motor causing the noise you're describing. Or you might have put too much oil into the motor. The question is whether w...
Tonearm cartridge wires question
Two questions:1) Given the proximity of the cartridge pins and tonearm wiring, don't most headshell wires come into contact normally on most setups? 2) As Raul pointed out, if the choice of the wire pin connectors matter, how do you change them? D...
Parallel? How do you set the VTA?
DoverI have a screw gauge that slips under the arm lift.1/4 turn of the screw equates to 1/1000 of an inch.I can hear 1/1000 of an inch like night and day.Apparently, it takes a 4mm change in the VTA to change the SRA by 1 degree on a 9-inch tonea...
Parallel? How do you set the VTA?
+1 Rockitman. I've thought the same thing ever since the Graham hit the market. Brf, the USB microscope is a great tool as well for sure, and is on my to-buy list. I like some of the DinoLite models with measuring software, but they are around $30...
