6SN7 tube question
Thank you, Al and Ralph. I was actually looking at the Sylvania tubes, but this particular era looks a little bit out of my budget. Circa 1970s is very reasonably priced, on the other hand, and I'd think probably better than any new stuff on the m...
6SN7 tube question
Thanks everyone. I'm a bit frustrated as I've had to replace the tubes just about once a year even though I listen on the weekends only, and my understanding is that the 6SN7 is one of the most reliable tubes and should last longer than that. Soun...
wired magazine and Tom Port
I wonder if those who shell out the ridiculous amount of money for Port's hot stampers ever stop to think about the sheer absurdity of what he purports to be selling. I do agree there are differences in sound between pressings of the same record o...
wired magazine and Tom Port
His "reference" system uses a Dynavector 17D3? "Tubes make everything sound warm and add distortion" is his reasoning behind using an old solid state amp? The guy is a joke, his absurd prices notwithstanding.
Lyra Delos 'belly cover'
I don't where you got your cart, but if it came with the manual, as it should, it clearly states it's washi paper, it's there for a reason, and it is NOT to be removed as removing it will void warranty.
Why are records still warped?
Perhaps I'm missing something, but I own many, many a flat record, some decades' old. Unless the polymerization process is a brand new phenomenon, which it shouldn't be, the thread question still stands and WPC's explanation is an interesting piec...
Stillpoints LP Isolator Record Weight
I use a Harmonic Resolutions Systems ADH record weight and the improvement vs. the standard VPI delrin clamp is beyond dramatic. There may be "better" (in a given system) clamps/weights out there for more money, but I doubt you can buy a better re...
Why are records still warped?
04-01-15: MapmanNEw vinyl is a big cash grab IMHO. I don't understand why people would subject themselves to it, especially those who remember the golden days of vinyl. There are many re-releases that are very desirable for analog audiophiles, espe...
Why are records still warped?
Effischer,I share your frustration. Bdp24 explained it in a nutshell. I think the criminal lack of quality control at pressing plants is to a large degree caused by the huge jump in vinyl popularity in recent years and everyone jumping on the band...
Review--RCM Sensor 2 Prelude Phono Preamplifier
Olimanmojo,I'm curious how you set up your gain/sensitivity settings with the Sensor. It outputs a whopping 2 V which is about twice as much as the great majority of phono preamps out there. I found that I had to go almost to the highest sensitivi...
Review--RCM Sensor 2 Prelude Phono Preamplifier
Thank you for taking the time and writing the review. Do you know the differences between Sensor I and II? I have the Sensor with upgraded Furutech fuses and jacks and I've had it for over 2 years now so I'm curious to hear what else has been upgr...
HRS ADH Record Weight
Ianlane (and Moonguy),Thank you for your response and I too do not hear any ill-effects of the weight after living with it for a few weeks now. I also agree that HRS was probably just being cautious when recommending the ADH with tangential tonear...
Ringing from the tweeter
Al,Thank you for your wishes and advice. It's greatly appreciated as always.I was going to wait for a few days before switching the interconnects since I just wanted to listen over Christmas and not tinker, and the ringing continued until some tim...
New SDS settings
Ok, so I tried to recalibrate the unit, and the voltages are set to 96 V and 102 V for 33.3 and 45 respectively. So why and how on earth does my run voltage drop to 72 V?
New SDS settings
Thanks everyone. I listened at the run voltage of 72 with both 33.3 and 45 records, but didn't get a chance to experiment with different voltage settings. Will do perhaps this coming weekend, but both worked ok as far as the speed stability. Howev...
