Did anybody try a Boston Audio Mat1 on their VPI
I tried it and it did nothing positive in my system. It's relatively thick so it messes with the clamp as well. If you haven't bought it yet, my advice would be to spend the money on records instead.
Don't use this to lube your VPI Classic bearing
Captain Winters,Please let us know how this Super Lube works. It looks like it should work quite well, and saw they also sell 1 oz tubes for $3. Atmashpere,The Classic has an inverted bearing so would transmission fluid work? I don't know its visc...
Don't use this to lube your VPI Classic bearing
Ahoy Captain, The manual states that you need to put only a little bit of grease on top of the bearing. This makes sense to me as the tight (pun intended :) specs for the bearing make anything more simply excessive, which your experience seems to ...
Advice on bulk record pricing?
I know the owner of my local record store goes to people's houses to evaluate their collections. You could try that route if you have a used record store in town. If you don't like what he's offering, you'd at least have a ballpark how much the re...

Swanny,"Magic Lube" is a registered trade name so I certainly hope it's the same product for VPI's sake. I used this last year and it worked great. I got it at Home Depot. I just hate wasting things. Same with motor oil for the motor. I had to buy...
JMW 10.5 tonearm cartridge recommendation
Andy,Here's a great website you can use to calculate the resonant frequency and find out more about arm/cart matching. http://www.theanalogdept.com/cartridge___arm_matching.htmHere's the formula: rf = 159 / sqrt ((eff. mass + cart weight + fastene...

To add to Dover's post, I vaguely recall reading an old post where someone mentioned VPI did not recommend Teflon based lubricants.
Don't use this to lube your VPI Classic bearing
I'm very weary of sprays since it's next to impossible to control the spray pattern. "Below the brass piece" means the base of the pulley shaft that is below the brass plate surrounding the pulley. The space between the two is so narrow that you'd...
Don't use this to lube your VPI Classic bearing
Stringreen,This is news to me. I'm pretty sure my Classic was factory greased with white lithium grease (or an equivalent) as I saw some of it seep down the shaft with gravity. VPI has an excellent customer service, but their manuals are often sub...
Don't use this to lube your VPI Classic bearing
Thanks all.Doug, I don't know what "functionally equivalent to the OEM lubricant" means in this case. As the poster directly below kindly cited, the manual simply speaks of "white lithium grease." White lithium grease does not sell for $26 for a s...
At what vol level do you get rumble / flutter?
I meant to mention it in my last post - if anyone saw Fremer's "21st Century Vinyl" DVD, there was a great segment shot at Stirling Sound in NYC, and interview with the recently deceased, great George Marino. (What a loss to the community, by the ...
At what vol level do you get rumble / flutter?
Tobes,The existence of woofer pumping is not a debatable issue and I didn't claim you tried to dispute it. But I do disagree, at least somewhat, with your proposition that "[t]he sub-sonic frequencies are generated by the playback process but prob...
At what vol level do you get rumble / flutter?
Are subsonic frequencies - below 20Hz - cut into records?According to many high-end audio dealers and several engineers I queried about this issue, the answer is yes. Here is a quote from the KAB website:One of the biggest let downs with phono pla...
At what vol level do you get rumble / flutter?
You can use Blu Tack instead of tape as well. I'm with Srwooten though - I'm very skeptical about claims that people's systems are completely free of rumble. I don't care how well your tonearm/cartridge are matched; if you have very low frequencie...
Goertz MI2 with Sim I-5
Hello,My apologies for reviving an old thread, but I have a few questions that fit it well.I have a pair of the Rogue Audio M-180 tube monoblocks; do I need to be concerned with the Zobel network when using the Goertz cables? It sounds like oscill...
