Record cleaning formula using Triton X-100
b. 10: Water-soluble (lipid/oil-insoluble) Just to clarify, it should read as follows: b.  > or equal to 10: Water-soluble (lipid/oil-insoluble) Sorry for any confusion.  Data comes from Hydrophilic-lipophilic balance - Wikipedia
Record cleaning formula using Triton X-100
@toddnlg, If you first add alcohol to water and then add the surfactant, the surfactant will not go into solution quickly, it will go through the solution like a stone. If you add 15-S-9 to DIW, it begins dissolving on contact, one of the benefit...
Record cleaning formula using Triton X-100
@toddnlg, The 20% IPA and 0.02-0.05% TX100 in distilled water listed by @lewm is a good detergent receipt, but it requires a rinse - it's not a no-rinse formula.  One note of caution - the above blend with 20% IPA is intended for small quantit...

@toddnlg, The 20% IPA and 0.02-0.05% TX100 in distilled water listed by @lewm is a good detergent receipt, but it requires a rinse - it's not a no-rinse formula.  A key property of nonionic surfactants is critical micelle concentration (CMC).  S...
Perfect Vinyl Forever
@taww, Purchase distilled  water from your local grocery store.
Perfect Vinyl Forever
@taww, Congrats on your return analog, nice rig and enjoy the journey.  Many people purchase a 2nd Spin-Clean that contains only distilled/demineralized (DIW) water as a rinse.  Using just one Spin-Clean without a rinse, there is risk of leaving ...
VPI Classic 1 tone arm swap help needed
Note that the VPI tonearms are surface mount with the phono cable exiting on top of the plinth. SME and many others are through plinth mount with the phono cable exiting below the plinth. The VPI Classic is not setup for through the plinth tonearm...
Why do certain records wear so quickly?
The record ’vinyl’ composition is pretty complicated. Here is the only detailed documented composition and discussion I know of detailed in the RCA Patent 3,960,790, June 1, 1976, DISC RECORD AND METHOD OF COMPOUNDING DISC RECORD COMPOSITION 14984...

@oldaudiophile, have I learned anything? Oh yes, you have learned quite a bit. WRT to the Elmasonic P60H PP_Elmasonic_P60H_EN.pdf, it’s a very versatile dual frequency 37/80-kHz unit with variable power and various operating modes. As the book...

Hi Bill,  Thanks for the kind words, and yes, it's been a bit of journey since the VPI Forum days.  I very grateful to @whart for jumping in as Editor and Publisher of the book and making it available for free.  Although there are days when I ask...

@dogberry,  Have you moved on from the Sussurro Gold? No. VPI did a comparison some year back at CAF with two exact same tables (HW-40); played back through some big Wilsons; one with the Lyra-Etna, the other with the Soundsmith Hyperion (the...

@starwarrior. FWIW, this is what is in Dawn Ultra - CPID.  Aside from water there are 19-ingredients.  The first 3 (anionic surfactants) are what does most of the cleaning.  But understand that the thickness is artificial - they add propylene gly...

@tuberculin, I am not criticizing your system. It simply does not work for me. Don’t be so sensitive, show some humility and accept that this boy ain’t gonna buy it. Your prior statement is obviously very critical of items that I may have neve...

@lewm,  The quote I somewhat butchered was:  You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time" and web 'appears' to attribute it to John L...

@tuberculin,  Make no mistake, you did not offend me.  You criticized the work that I have done, and I have the right of response.  Period.  I have expended as much as 4-6 hours working with someone when they are attempting to use the chemistry ...
