What are the audio differences you hear with turntable Mats. I never heard a difference in mats with a Rega TT, either a P3 or P8. @drbond You really have to do the audition against a decent platter pad. If all the ones you used were so much junk you probably would not have heard a difference. Those ma...
Garrard 301 motor and rumble To Ralph Karsten; this person absolutely misunderstood your point about powerful motors eliminating stylus drag-induced speed variation and yet you refrained from correcting him. @fsonicsmith I missed his comment. FWIW, We stopped making our...
What is meant exactly by the description 'more musical'? @rauliruegas Human hearing perceptual rules are the same from one person to the next regardless of taste. It is this fact that deciBels can be used to show sound pressure (since the ear hears sound on a logarithmic scale). The Fletcher-Munson c...
Blowing Fuses. Dennis Had Inspire 300B SET I’ll just say that your thought that the fuse is always properly sized to prevent a "poorly engineered power transformer" from blowing is an example of what I meant by overly optomistic. You think they screwed up the power transformer but properl...
Blowing Fuses. Dennis Had Inspire 300B SET @carlsbad2 I probably do see this from a different perspective. I’ve worked on so many different pieces over the years and I’ve seen attempts to install higher rated fuses. About 1/2 the time it ended in tears. If you put a 3A fuse were a 2A fuse...
What are the audio differences you hear with turntable Mats. @danmar123 If that was my machine I'd have an arm board machined of solid aluminum, same thickness and alloy as the plinth.
What are the audio differences you hear with turntable Mats. @danmar123 It might be, particularly if the entire plinth is Corion and there isn't a separate arm board. It would be even better if the whole thing were laminated to a substantial aluminum or steel sub-plate so the two dissimilar materials could ...
Blowing Fuses. Dennis Had Inspire 300B SET @carlsbad2 I'm not certain how you arrived at this: Your opinion is noted and considered overly optiomistic at best. You are a manufacturer and have an overly proud opinion of manufacturers IMHO. My prior comment is based on experience. I st...
What are the audio differences you hear with turntable Mats. @danmar123 If the arm board is made to be non-resonant and so is less resonant then the plinth, the two will not vibrate the same way (of course, ideally both should be inert). This will allow vibration in either to be more easily transduced.
When to choice XLR over RCA ICs. @elliottbnewcombjr Yes. I got that; in my post above that is what I was talking about. I should have been more specific.
What are the audio differences you hear with turntable Mats. Now if I can find a suitable tone arm base material, I'd be a happier camper. @danmar123 It should be the same material as the plinth that supports the platter bearing. It should also be as rigidly coupled to that plinth, to the base of the pla...
Nearfield listening - once more the Swarm system is able to do the vanishing act that I ask for. Or most of it. Have never heard it, though. @o_holter I have a pair in my system. My main speakers are flat to 20Hz so I added the Swarm subs to break up the standing wave only. O...
Blowing Fuses. Dennis Had Inspire 300B SET I would try a 3A slo blow @moose89 Please ignore the above advise- never, ever put a fuse higher than the rated fuse in any product unless specifically told by the manufacturer that its OK. Solid state amps usually have fast blow fuses. Tube a...
Garrard 301 motor and rumble One key to really good LP playback is a robust drive in the turntable. That is why the Garrard has a following, along with the Lenco, Empire and Technics. No matter how speed stable with no LP, a wimpy drive will have speed variation when you set...
When to choice XLR over RCA ICs. The balanced signal volume is a barely, but recognizable increase in volume, no way is is that much. @elliottbnewcombjr Hm. That might be because the balanced output is a completely separate circuit from the single-ended output. Turns out Pro... |
