2/3 channel home cinema
amg has some good points.  The audio for all movies are mixed for a minimum 5 channel system.  For movie dialogue, the sounds are mixed so that they are output primarily to the center channel speaker.  The left/right will produce ambient reverbera...

Well, it's all about budget.  We are suggesting that the OP pay a lot more than he is willing.  If he wants to, great!  But budget is always a constraint.  Parasound A23 is okay, but be aware that it's on the warm side.  And yes, you still need to...

The Music Fidelity M3si is a fine piece, but it is a little light in the power supply for these specific speakers.  I'm sure it would work fine, but the M5si would be a better choice.  Both the M5si and Hegel H160 are about in the same price and l...
Oyaide or Furutech plugs
Huh, I missed this thread earlier this year. I have noticed that erik_squires always has a "knee jerk" reaction to mention of Furutech because of his bad experience with bananas. I have found Furutech to be probably the best quality and mechanical...
Adding a third, center channel for dialogue to a 2 channel rig
You will need a HT Processor or receiver to decode multi-channel source (such as bluray or satellite).

Agreed, that's why I suggested putting in a big amp.  When I suggested Emotiva, I was really thinking of the bigger XPA amps that they have.  That UPA 700 is somewhat weak in the power supply department.Yeah, the Hegel H160 would be absolutely awe...

Those monitor audio Silver 8 will drop down to pretty low impedance in some areas of the bass/midbass.  If you wanted a different receiver, try to get the biggest heaviest receiver possible.  Maybe used if it's in your price range, like a used Yam...

Are you looking for a replacement receiver?  Or an external amplifier to connect to the Yamaha preamp outputs?
Stacking a HT processor on top of amplifier
I have done stacking like that.  The amplifier heat will rise and heat the HT Processor.  What you want to do is get a piece of 4x4 lumber and cut 4 pieces into something like 1-1/2" or 2" thick slices.  Then cut a 1/4 plywood to set on top of tha...
Sound cuts off intermittently when laptop connected to Onkyo TX-NR575
Sorry, I misunderstood how you described your scenarios.I think you have probably just gotten one of those weird scenarios where there is a hiccup in how the source device sends/encodes audio through HDMI.  I have experienced this in other devices...
Sound cuts off intermittently when laptop connected to Onkyo TX-NR575
Could be a software/driver issue on the laptop for the HDMI output.  If you are using a short HDMI cable, try one that is at least 6 feet.  Playing music on the laptop speakers is not the same function as playing audio through HDMI output.
Theta Cassablanca 3 setup related question and request for input
Xtreme is the best DAC.Superior is 2nd best.Premium is the lowest/cheapest DAC board. The versions don't really matter as they mostly describe compatibility.  The audio circuits are what is important.  So a Superior 2 is still not going to be as go...
Theta Cassablanca 3 setup related question and request for input
Thinking more about your sound quality question, it highly depends on the DAC boards you get.  The Theta Xtreme DAC is the best.  It is cleaner/clearer sounding than the Superior DAC (which is one step down).Between CB3 and CB4, I'm not sure about...
Replacing fuse
I heartedly agree with almarg's position.  In the big scheme of things, 1.7A difference is not a whole lot when you are looking at a 6.3A reference point.   And it really varies depending on manufacturer.  A 6.3A fuse is relatively equal to 756 wa...
Theta Cassablanca 3 setup related question and request for input
First, the CB3 does not have DIRAC room control.  I think it may be complicated to setup because the CB3 has all these different crossover points and crossover slopes/types.  If I remember right, you can actually set your subwoofer crossover frequ...
