Suggestions for replacement for my old Nuforce AVP-18 surround sound processor
First thing.  Dolby Atmos and DTS:X surround formats are fully backward compatible.  That means that you can play an Atmos movie on a system that does not support Atmos and the movie/sound will play just fine.Second, the newer 4K processors are on...
parasound 200 pre or zpre3 or what other pre for 2 channel
Some newer Parasound preamps appear to be using switching power supplies.  From pictures, it looks like Zpre is still a linear power supply. The P5/P6 are larger cases, but with a big amount of open space inside and what looks like a switching powe...
Recommendations for HDMI cables specifically for audio quality
That pricing is about right.  The Starlight are typically $100 to $300.  The Silver Starlight are typically $300 to $500.  There isn't many up for sale used right now.The old Starlight / Silver Starlight are built with exactly the same design as t...
Recommendations for HDMI cables specifically for audio quality
lol, I was just going to jump in.  Make sure you get a 2 meter HDMI cable.  You can get longer, but never get something under 2 meters.  Basically, it comes down to:1 - Nordost Valhalla 2 HDMI2 - Wire World Silver Starlight 5-23 - Wire World Starl...
Is the preamp the “heart” of the system?
I would say the preamp is more the spinal column. It links everything together. The DAC is really the "brain" because it is generating the decisions on analog waveform. The preamp or spinal column is just linking and transferring those messages to...
Power Cable DIY - Please advise
Would you mind to tell a little more about it (or do you sell them commercially)? How tight did you braid the hot/neutral/ground triplets? How did you put together the 6 braids to form the whole cable (braid again, twist)? I don't sell comme...
Krell Evo 402 or KRELL Evo 302e?
The "e" models are newer and have some additional features / improvements.  The 402 had a standby power draw of 370 watts.  The "e" models have a very small power draw in standby (2 watts).  You can also re-configure them to have the standard high...
ACTIVE LOUDSPEAKERS
I would suggest getting an adapter that adds a USB port to your Macbook Pro.  I don't know enough to suggest something, so I recommend going to your local Apple store or Best Buy to have them help you in getting an adapter.Once you have this, ther...
Looking for a speaker cable with a relaxed sound.
It's unfortunate that everybody comes out of the woodwork with drastically different opinions across the board on threads like this.  It just leaves the OP even more confused.
Surround speakers: Better ones at rear or side?
Obviously, your front stage is the most important like limomangus said, but I'm assuming you're only asking about surrounds.Side surrounds speakers should be better than rear surrounds.  Side surrounds still has some direct sounds generated (in mo...
Looking for a speaker cable with a relaxed sound.
Wireworld Eclipse 8 would fit that bill. I would second this suggestion.  I have heard the Wire World "Eclipse" level XLR interconnects.  They have very excellent resolution, but they are just very slightly laid back (definitely not forward or b...
Where has been your most effective placement for an aftermarket fuse?
In my scenarios, fuse upgrades almost always made more improvement/change in the sound when placed in a preamp / source device.  In amplifiers, fuse upgrade still makes an improvement, but the amount of difference is not as much as a fuse upgrade ...
BURN IN A REBUILD AMPLIFIER
If that Furutech fuse is new, you'll need another 300 hours to burn that in.
Aftermarket fuse for subwoofers?
zealot - someone so convinced they had the right of it that even incontrovertible proof held right under their nose wouldn't convince them otherwise.
Single driver vs traditional 3 way loudspeakers
Full range single drivers do have their following.  That being said, it's incredibly difficult to engineer a single driver that will do a wide range (from low 50 Hz all the way up to high 20 kHz).  Some can do this, but with compromises.  I think ...
