Intigrated Amp Dilemma
use the halo as a preamp to drive the parasound a21.  it stays in class A mode much longer than the hint.
Looking for input: Best material for mid range cone
the most transparent midrange drivers i have heard are made of aluminum.  but their properties usually need one incredible crossover to tame the break up distortion and rapidly rising response.   see the joseph audio speakers with infinite slope c...
Dynavector DV20X2L Question
have you read the AT ART9 thread?  i had / have the DV20X2L and the ART9 sounds better.
Stay away from the nad
"blue cap" C272 and it is a very nice sounding solid state amp with gobs of power and dynamics, never a glitch.c356 year and a half and no issues except the power led flickers.  not happy with the sound of the C356 though.
If bi-amping is so great, why do some high end speakers not support it?
bi-amping can be great but it depends on the application.   there really are not many disadvantages for speaker makers except the slight expense to add the additional wiring, binding posts and jumpers.  the advantages are the ability to have a mor...
Is Spiking Necesarry?
mine sound noticeably better when I push the spikes through the carpet to make contact with my basement's concrete floor.  i do this with the subwoofer too.  pain to move around but the sound is better.on the other hand i was in the vinnie rossie ...
Pani ... New ART-9 up and running ...
mine was sounding a little dull compared to other cartridges so I raised the tonearm tail by 2mm from absolute level.amazing what a difference it made in clarity, detail and dynamics.  the ART9 is very sensitive to VTA so if you are not happy with...
Tube Phono with Tube Integrated Amp?
i prefer a good quality solid state phono preamp with my tube integrated amp.   it sounds spectacular and also closer to my digital sources that way.
I would like to get into Turntables but ......... HELP!
budget including cartridge?  what is your amplifier?
8K for a one-time listen?
At least the double LPs are not twice as much as the $5500 single LP (Bill Evans). they could theoretically ask $11,000 for the 4-lacquer sets.  So in theory we would save $3,600!  Quite a deal!
High mass vs Low Mass Turntables - Sound difference?
@lewm a smaller motor pulley driving a larger pulley (platter vs. sub platter) has many engineering advantages as can be computed in simple belt pulley - pulley drive system configurations.  i performed some engineering calculations simulating a 1...
8K for a one-time listen?
it would be a bummer if the power went out while playing it.
Next step up from the Dynavector 20x2 for more bass?
don't blame it on the cartridge- I had a DV20X2L on a VPI table and there was bass o'plenty- perhaps too much bass.  if you have a rega table you need to add shims to the tonearm to set the VTA properly- the rega cartridges are ~ 4mm shorter than ...
Looking for a Phono pre around 1K
you need an outboard power supply and large transformer to approach the sound of the "big boys" - e.g. paraasound JC3, manley chinook, lehmann decade (take a look under their "hoods").  you can get there with slightly above $1K with the lehmann bl...
FM alive and well here...curious question
I use my tuner on occasion and actually have the antenna in the attic- I have not gotten around to running the cable but it's something I had planned to do.  Basically one good FM station in the Chicago area that I like.  But I recently purchased ...
