Recommended Soldering Iron I use this one: and it works very well, but I am planning to upgrade to the one Peter posted (or the digital version of it) simply because I want auto shut-off (I think this is an essential feature for hobbiest). The temperature control will also ...
Rectifier Tube Clarification/Help W/ Dared 2000a I experience some speaker hiss with the Dared Sl-2000A. Is it normal? no it's not. Have you tried swapping tubes? Could be your tubes are microphonic
No love for the REL S series anymore? the prices have come down a smidge, but I've noticed them selling . . . at least the natural wood ones have been. The black ones have always seemed to sell for a lot less, or not at all . . .
Does you wife touch your system? my wife has no interest in it. It's a good thing too, because if she tried she would quickly become frustrated and irate, and blame me for how hard it is to make it work. Also, I would be hovering over her every move and become irate when she does...
Upgrade Hafler 9500 or Mccormack DNA-1 for Thiels The guru I am hoping reads this would have heard both and would also be able to comment on how each would sound compared to the C-J I doubt you'll find such a guru; but, here's my 2 cents: I have no experience with the Hafler or DNA - upgraded or...
How do good car amps sound? if you're looking for a compact power amp for a desktop check out a gainclone or a T-amp. They sound wonderful, though not necessarily high power (gainclone amps are ~30 - 45 watts; T-amps ~10 watts)
Possibly controversial: Totem arro overrated? and using the same amp and sourcethat right there may be the root of your different experience. I don't have, nor have I ever heard the Arros, but do have 2 other Totem speakers and enough experience with all sorts of gear to know that some combin...

I advise you all stick with smaller dogs My German Shorthaired Pointer does the exact same thing (with the exact same knotted rope toy. Fortunately not in my audio room yet. But maybe it's time to get rid of that toy since I'm NOT going to get rid of the dog at this point . . . she's too...
B&K PT5 Preamp/Tuner mystery volume this is a long shot maybe, but if you put tape over the remote receiver sensor does it still do it? if so, perhaps something in the room is emitting IR at that frequency.
Bi-Amping . . . not sure you really want this to be your primary criteria for speaker purchase. I would not. Rather, pick the speakers that sound like and look like what you really want, and cost w/i your budget. In all likelihood they will have dual bindin...
Packaging Services I don't trust anyone to pack them but myself. There are a few places around that sell boxes. Uhaul has some good t ply boxes, and some of the better packing stores do too (not the UPS store). Buy Styrofoam insulation at hope depot for padding and ...
Miles Davis FWIW I have a couple of Miles Davis LP's that were digitally remastered and would say they are worth having, but not true audiophile level. One of then was digitally converted to "simulated stereo", which is kind of unsatisfying. |
