the gateway product that turned you into an audiophile
As already mentioned hearing the Magnepan Tympani speakers producing solo violin was the start for me.  I was using Ohm Walsh speakers with SAE and Phase Linear electronics.  I wish I still had room for that system.  The Lafayette KT-550 tube powe...
Improve RFI
+11 @mapman Mu metal foil is designed to shield sensitive devices. & Etc. There is also a carbon based paper I believe. that you can use.   We use cases designed to cover transformers in our designs that help greatly.  As we manufacturer tub...
Advice on a good Digital Coax Cable to run between my Transport and DAC?
The best digital cable was the Jorma period.  Way too many tried and could not compete.  We are a manufacturer and repair shop and can get any cable we want.  We have tried all of the above mentioned cables, some were very good but not like the Jo...
My Favorite Tweaks, What is yours?
Don't use any.  While I found that some make a slight difference, some improvements some not so, I can make a much bigger impact by using better parts in the components where I can get much bigger sound improvements in openness, air, dynamics, bas...
repair restore classe ca300
I'm in NJ and can repair modify upgrade any audio component  if I can be of service
What is the most overlooked consideration?
@devinplombier to bad you are not in the NYC area where we could show you so then you would know how to select a component then you can narrow down your decision-making.  To many people are just going from one manufacturer to another without knowi...
What is the most overlooked consideration?
The simple answer is: Understanding how a component produces music which comes down to the build and the parts used like the transformer, power supply design and capacitors used, etc. Without knowing this, you are just buying one brand or anothe...
Integrated that blew you away
The absolute best sounding one was the  Line Magnetic.  We make our own tube products (not integrated units though) and they make a hell of one for the price.  Very impressive in our opinion.  Build quality is excellent.
Buyer Beware
Buyer beware from who the sellers?  As a manufacturer of audio components, we try and test our components in multiple systems most of the time for noise as our products are tube designs.  It is impossible to manufacture a product and know how it w...
Tin Pan Alley and Thanks to You- which speakers play the tap on the snares the best?
Speakers are a very good starting point but the equipment also matters a great deal.  If you are looking for detail in your sound, you need to have components that are quiet.  That usually starts with the power supply design, etc.  Old style tube ...
Why most $3000 and lower DAC’s sound almost identical
Similar parts and designs
I think I have an amp problem
Without having the unit in to evaluate it sounds like capacitors are failing in the power supply.  Open up the cover and check to see if they are bulging.  Check for any burn marks on the circuit board or if they have any smell.  This is a very si...
Which would be preferable, an older Audio Research Corp. VT130 or a newer SS Rotel 1552?
Easily the ARC but with upgraded parts.   Happy Listening.
Has anyone switched from Class AB/A to Class D? Was it better? Was it worse?
Lots of advice and opinions already given. Here is my 2 cents worth.  Disagree, agree, send me a note telling me I am an idiot it is all good. This is a false statement - They have one purpose: to reproduce what is given to them accurately. Chan...
Anyone else constantly curious about amps?
That's why being a manufacturer and repair shop we get to hear so many pieces of equipment every day.  To be perfectly honest, upgrades to parts can make a more significant sonic improvement.  Swapping out gear is not the way to go.  Also, one amp...
