Do you run a high end power cord on your sub?
Try an original Synergistic Research AC cord for your powered sub. They can be had for around $125 on the used market, and will provide you with lots of tight, powerful bass energy. No need to spend half a grand on an expensive AC cord for your su...
Which $500 Speaker Next?
I would not leave out a pair of Monitor Audio RS-6 if you like a dynamic, detailed and lively sound at that price point....Great speaker for the price!
Buzz/hum through speakers
Try grounding the chassis of the amp to the pre-amp, using a thin piece of 18-22 gauge wire. Wrap the bare wire ends around the head of a chassis screw, then tighten.
What is your DESERT ISLAND amp & speaker combo?
If I were stuck on a desert island and needed music, I would certainly bring waterproof, efficient speakers, and a small, 12 volt Tripath amp. I would also bring a good solar panel to power things with, and rechargeable battery of course. (I am as...
Magnepan 3.7 speakers + Audio Research Ref 75 amp
The combo should sound and work very well, but at low to medium volume levels. The 3.7's are not very efficient, but the Ref 75 should have good control over them up to its rated output. It would mostly depend on your listening habits.
Cable/Fuse Direction Matters?
I agree with Knghifi in regards to the Hifi tuning brand fuses...no doubt there is a correct direction for them in all components I have tried. I have not heard those differences when changing direction of standard fuses.
Battery Power & Power Amp
Your Bryston 4BSST power amp is a 300 w.p.c. powerhouse, that runs on standard 120 volts. The Red WIne Audio Black Lightning hugh current battery supply is designed for low power consumption, low voltage (5 to 20 volt) components. It will not powe...
Marian McPartland
So sad to hear of her passing! She was an amazing musician, who loved what she did. What a wonderful life she had, and with so many dear, true friends.... How could any person ask for more?
Ok to use a Shunyata Hydra A-4 with a VAC 70/70?
The Hydra A-4 is a passive conditioner, rated at 20 amps. It will not keep power "sags" from entering your VAC 70/70 amp and pre-amp. It will handle the current draw of both components. A dedicated line would be the first step. You would have to l...
Can a single terminal speaker be bi-amped?
Yes, as Kr4 stated...bad idea to double them up. How about bridge them if possible, or even use them as mono amps....one channel of amp 1 for the left speaker, and one channel of amp 2 for the right? It may improve separation compared to running o...
Do power cords make a difference?
Cats are a good indicator too...don't rule out their responses!
Downgrade Suprise?
I have owned both Traingles and M20's. The Triangles are faster, far more efficient and amp friendly. The M20 has more body and bass weight with the right amp. The M20's do't respond well to amps such as gainclones or small tube amps that don't ha...
Room treatment in phases...where to start
That is one small listening space! With the hard wood floors and bare walls, you must have a lot of reflection issues going on there. Bass traps may help tighten up the botom end boom issues, but wall treatments would be a must have to help solve ...
M-Lores or Aon 3: bass/imaging
I have heard the regular Tekton Lore, which claimed a bass response of 30hz. I was quite disappointed when driving them with two very compatible amps, one an SET tube amp, and the other a well respected class D solid state. After breaking them in ...
Need tube help with tube buffer 6SN7 tubes
Yes, Brf and other posters are correct... The pairs you see listed on Audiogon right now are NOT true "bad boys". They are standard 2-hole Sylvanias, worth far less than his asking price. I have spent countless years listening to different brands ...
