Using Maple Butcher Block Under a Turntable
@blueranger My opinion....It has been my recent experience that using rubber for turntable damping does not seem to produce the desired results.  Removing the "half inch high damped spike stands" that use rubber may have cleaned up dynamics and th...
Using Maple Butcher Block Under a Turntable
@blueranger When you said "half inch high dampened spike stands," were those by chance rubber damped spike stands?
vpi tnt still a performer?
@melm I do specifically state I have heard the acrylic-lead platter.  I have it on a "modified TNT" and indicate "quite good" as my opinion on performance.  It is also my opinion that the modded TNT with the lead-filled acrylic platter is not quit...
vpi tnt still a performer?
@melm I have a "modified" TNT with a solid black lead-filled acrylic platter.  Quite good.  The Aries platter I have has a thin (maybe 1/4") layer of black acrylic on top of a metal (I though stainless or aluminum) platter.  Heavy.  Grooved.  Rest...
vpi tnt still a performer?
@melm I thought the original Aries shared the same platter as the current model of TNT at the time the Aries was produced.  But I could be wrong.

Herron VTPH-2A phono preamp owner's advice.

Please remind me about VPI TT anti-skating.
I just sent a cartridge to Soundsmith for a new cantilever and stylus after many hours of play on an early VPI Aries with a JMW Memorial arm.  No anti-skate.  The report was that the cartridge wear was symmetrical, neither side worn more than the ...
