Yet another contender for my Klyne 6PE: ARC PH5 DAniele - Contact Herron (Keith Herron) and ask about used units, even a VTPH-1. I have not heard ANY ARC phono stage that bests Herron phono stages.
Hurst motor rumble? I've never thought about "dropping the needle" onto anything that didn't have some kind of spiraling groove toward the center of the turntable. My tastes in music don't venture out that far. If the noise doesn't happen during playback, who cares?
Rega arm vs Sumiko Rega 250 arm? Good for toasting marshmellows. MMTs are for playing vinyl.
Entry level Phono Stage for Dynavector 10x5 Maybe try to find a used Herron VTPH-1. It is an excellent phono stage compared to other used unit in that price point, significantly better than anything new at that price point. Or just pop for a Herron VTPH-2 and not worry about upgrading the p...
Yet another contender for my Klyne 6PE: ARC PH5 Agree with the Herron choice. I have a VTPH-2, plenty of gain, spectacular performer. I have not heard anything better, not heard anything as good.
favorite phono cartridge I've had several carts. Currently using my favorite, an AT OC9/II. I;ve tried a few others including a Lyra Clavis da Capo. I just like the OC9/II the best. Works exceptional well with a Herron VTPH-2.

Phono stage matching - how critical Lewm - Minimum should be 1:100 ratio between the two. It is supported by more than one manufacturer.
Phono stage matching - how critical The more critical matching is the phono stage to the preamp / line stage. If the phono stage is a tube unit with higher output impedance and the preamp / line stage is a low input impedance solid state unit. the mismatch will negatively impact the...
Cary or Conrad Johnson phono preamp? I have to second the Herron VTPH-2. I have one because I haven't heard anything as good. At any price. It is tubes, but without bloat or excessive warmth, and it's dead quiet.
upgrade or side step Look for a used VPI Classic. I've seen a few slightly more than your $1500 amount, but not much more.
recommended phono preamp for $2500? As was brought up in a different thread, the input impedance of the line stage preamp is critical to the performance of some tube phono stages. Do you know what the input impedance is for your line stage? What kind of line stage are you using?
recommended phono preamp for $2500? Have you thought about searching for a used Herron VTPH-1?
What's your experience with fine phono preamp s ? I own and have not heard ANY other phono stage as good as a Herron VTPH-2. Prior to that phono pre-amp, I was using a Herron VTPH-1mc. Also very good, but short of a VTPH-2. The VTPH-2 has more of "You are there" than another other phono stage I'v...
suggestion for turntable upgrade If you're used to a LP-12 with an ITTOK, you will be blown away by a Classic. Might even go into sensory overload. ;)The Classic is a very good table. Great support from VPI if it isn't perfect. |
