First in line... "How did I know you were going to say that? The minute someone mentions price, they turn into a snob. "Because you made a point of talking about price and being critical of equipment because it didn't cost a lot, cost didn't measure up to your pri...
First in line... Properly set up, the OP's analog front end is VERY good. There is not much to be gained. However, there is a lot that can be gained downstream. Who cares about price but audio snobs? It's performance that counts.
First in line... Infection - There's nothing wrong with the 33EV, the arm and cart are top drawer. Your analog front end is not the problem. That said, you might hear what you're looking for with a step up in electronics, particularly in the phono stage and pre-am...
Any Herron VTPH-2 Phono Stage Owners out there? Lewm - If you live in the midwest, you're welcome to bring over your phono stage or maybe a loaner to compare. But something tells me you live in the Bay area (or I'm confusing you with another "Lew").
Which phono preamps among these three? have you auditioned a Herron VTPH-2?
Any Herron VTPH-2 Phono Stage Owners out there? BNpd24 - I'm very interested in a Decca cart. How does it sound, especially with the modified VTPH-1?
Any Herron VTPH-2 Phono Stage Owners out there? Spend as much as you want, try all the phono stages you'd like in your system. Broken record or not, I'm here to tell you the VTPH-2 is the very best phono stage I've ever heard. I haven't heard anything better.I don't mind taking criticism about ...
First in line... I'd suggest test driving a Herron VTPH-2 phono stage and a VTSP-2 line stage.

Thorens TD 160-significant upgrade possible $1500? My opinion is that you have a good basic set-up. The weak link seems to be the Grado cartridge. Replacing it with a decent medium or high output moving could cartridge could be just what you're looking for with out breaking the bank. A Denon DL-11...
First in line... That table / arm / cart combo doesn't have any balls? Are you serious? That should NOT be the problem with that combo. I would suggest looking at your downstream electronics. What's the rest of your system?
Soundsmith Phono-Pre, Any comments? Congrats Adeep42. Sounds like you found a winner for your system.
Phono stage w/automatic Load-Impedanance. Atmasphere is correct. A tube circuit can be designed to be low noise, components can be specifically for their low noise. Noise is NOT a drawback to tube design. And Atmasphere's last paragraph and last sentence speaks volumes! Dead center on the...
Phono stage w/automatic Load-Impedanance. How can a cartridge be autoloaded when the manufacturer specifies a particular load to voice a cartridge? (Sounds like more audio hooey and snake oil to me.)
Soundsmith Phono-Pre, Any comments? Good for you. Please let us know your impressions and how well it mates up with your cartridge. |
