"Most great ideas are found in the competitor's trash bin"I always liked that quote.IMHO many hi-end stereos are voiced to produce dissatisfaction by emphasizing one certain aspect to the detriment of others. Most hi-end stuff does something to th...
I've reached the beginning of the end - I hope
I got rid of my system because the bright sound was damaging my hearing. I could hear to 20k before but now 16-18k. Brightness aside, it did not sound right to my ears.I got a simple system to "get by" with and have yet to find the perfect sound.H...
Vibration absorbing material.
"Looking for a way to isolate vibrations in my wood enclosed stereo cabinet"You like the sound these vibrations make when amplified through your system?

Getting off the merry-go-round – AFRAID TO???
Music reproduction is an art form. There is no right or wrong audio just like there is no right or wrong oil painting. You get tired of one artistic presentation and go for a different one. No end to it.
Upgrading Entire System...please help
What was your relatives stereo? If that sound impressed you so much maybe we can come up with a cheaper, but similar sounding, system.
Gain Cards and Gain Clones, how do they different
Gain clone is a copy of the original Gaincard.Peter Daniels of Audio Sector in Canada has gain clones reviewed at 6moons.com and they are rated better than the original gaincard and priced at 1/2 the cost to boot.

When is your system good enough-and why?
It makes the music sound as good as possible. It doesn't cross the line where I start worrying about sounds and components - bad CD quality, bright I/C's, etc.
Very small bookshelf speakers / system
Denon, Yamaha, and Onkyo are much better than any JVC I have heard IMHO, including the wood cone model.
Very small bookshelf speakers / system
The latest Denon mini-speakers are crap, IMHO. They will have to be replaced. Maybe you could get an older system with the REAL Mission speakers. Also there is a big improvement in sound by hooking up any mini to a CDP with the AUX input. Much bett...
Speakers small enough for desktop use
Zaikesman, tha TABAQ is interesting and I may build myself:DIY Audio threadThis goes into the 50hz range. Still won't have the dynamics of a good 4". Also it is a floorstanding design. I have heard similar 3" to the Roles and I like my Tang-Band W...
Speakers small enough for desktop use
Zaikesman, what is wrong with the single driver Role speakers? Sounds like a perfect match for your needs.
Synergy - how to get there
1) Don't try to offset one problem with another.2) Each component should sound good on its own.3) It is hardest to get a good speaker, so find a speaker you like first and modify the sound with different amps. Also easier to swap out amps than spe...
