New Tweek - Has anyone ever tried this? No, Mr. Lebowski. That had not occurred to me. That had not occurred to us dude.
So, what's your audio resolution for 2012? Paying for what I bought in 2011
What's likely to happen when an 845 tube fails? I'm not sure, but I've heard it from reliable sources that a bad 845 will explode, showering the room with glass and poison gas and killing everyone within a 3 mile radius. But that's a risk I'm willing to take.
Mat recommendations for a Rega RP1 I like Herbie's mat as well, but why don't you just listen to the table for a few months while everything breaks in. Then you'll know if the new mat is an improvement or not. Don't assume that changing the mat will improve the sound to your liking.
Loss of inner detail No way to really tell, but I'll take an uneducated guess, as long as you're asking. I've owned the Sony and while I think it's nice for the money, it's not what I would call "full" or "harmonically rich". In a system that is somewhat bass-heavy, t...
Good power conditioner for non dedicated line Get an Audience AR1p and a Wiremold strip. There's an AR1p up for about $300 now and it's an excellent piece of gear. The Wiremold is up to about $90+, but it's a great product and this combo will give you 9 outlets of good-sounding filtered power...
Any Caviar Fans Here? There are threads here about cars, watches and other stuff. I thought caviar might be a nice break from reading about latest and greatest $1000 DAC that trounces $10K players.
Pros and Cons of "Staying with" Analog and Vinyl The most important thing you said was the YOU do not see (hear) the value of analog. In that case, dump it. That said, I really think that too many audiophiles obsess too much over their analog and it begins to be a source of stress rather than a ...
What to upgrade from Totem Forrest? Lavardin is a really nice amp, but I don't think you're getting the most out of the Forests with it. I'm not a loud listener, but I've found the Forests need like 100 watts plus to open up. What to buy? That's another question. Perhaps a Supernait...
Have digital players improved I'm not sure digital has improved over the past 5 years. Computer-based digital aside, it looks pretty much the same to me as it did 5 years ago. As far as having to "fiddle f'g" with analog, once a player is competently installed in your home, it...
The amazing new Marigo Evolution Signature Mat Badwisdom - In the case of the CD mat, aside from all the magical benefits, real or imagined, one very tangible thing a mat does is stabilize the disc, which is something that most transport makers agree on. The Esoteric transports employ a full-d...
cd's/SACDS to test highs? I've never heard close-miked opera, so the highs are generally somewhat muted compared to more modern stuff. Of course, it's a more realistic portrayal of what one would hear from the audience, but I don't think that's what you're looking for at t...
The amazing new Marigo Evolution Signature Mat I have an older oppo and I use the older Marigo mat in it. Fits fine, although you do need to make sure the disc is properly centered in the tray to begin with. Are you actully going to buy one of these things based on this thread? As I said, I ha...
cd's/SACDS to test highs? I would use one of the early Nora Jones records. The vocals are very up front and on a good system, you can actually hear the sound of her mouth opening, and the breath sounds. On a poor system, you will either lose these things or the vocals will...
Isolation pads for the speaker stands I would try removing the pads, giving a hard coupling between the speaker and the stand. Small spikes, wood buttons, etc. Anything that isn't squishy may firm up the sound. |
